Complementary therapies

Complementary Therapies are so termed as they are a range of therapies that work alongside conventional medical services. Complementary Therapies, sometimes termed Holistic Therapies, have the philosophy that our well being relies on balance of the body, mind and spirit. Spirit has nothing to do with religion, rather the inner essence of who we are. That undefinable part of us which helps us feel connected to others and happy within our selves.

The range of therapies provided are:

  • Aromatherapy massage
  • Massage Therapies
  • Reflexology
  • Thermo Auricular Therapy

Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is translated to mean “treatment with scents”. Essential oils are extracted from many plants using the flowers, leaves, bark and fruit rinds. Several oils are often blended together in synergies with varying carrier oils, which enhance the properties and can be used to assist the body’s natural healing and re-balancing abilities. The oils may also be used in vapourisers, burners, compresses and creams and are often used in industry to create perfumes, various cosmetics and soaps.

Treatments offered:

  • Aromatherapy massage
  • Blends for use at home

Massage Therapies

There are many different forms of massage and it is probably one of the oldest feel-good therapies. The benefits have been know for thousands of years and scientific research has shown that massage helps to release beneficial hormones such as beta endorphins and oxytocin into the body. The pressure of the massage can vary and the client chooses which type is best for them.

Treatments offered:

  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Ante-natal & Post Natal Massage
  • Indian Head Massage
  • Infant Massage Instruction
  • Blends for use at home

Reflexology

The hands and feet can act as maps with nerve endings relating to all parts of the body. Pressure can be applied to various reflex points to help to stimulate those areas that may be in need of balance. Combined with massage, reflexology can be an extremely relaxing therapy as well as a stimulating therapy, depending on a persons requirements.

Treatments offered:

  • General Reflexology
  • Ante-natal & Post Natal
  • Facial Reflexology
  • Lymphatic Drainage

Thermo Auricular Therapy

This is a gentle treatment using hollow cotton tubes impregnated with bees wax, honey, chamomile and sage. Lighting the tubes creates a chimney-like suction action which helps to draw out impurities and may help with blockages such as impacted earwax. The treatment is combined with drainage of facial reflexes and sinus points and a therapeutic head and neck massage which can help aid a restful nights sleep.

Treatments offered:

  • Hopi Ear Candles
  • Sinus Drainage, Plus Face and Head Massage
